new sites are at the bottom of each category. moockmarks are also as a single netscape bookmarks file. (note: right now i'm leaving in dead links for historical purposes. one day i might overhaul everything and add an option to not view dead links.)
- useful web tools
netscape products archive
- all the old browsers and server software. gotta get 'em for testing...
aol's webmaster website
- some okay information if you care to cater to aol users. you can get a copy of their browser here but only if you download some stupid trial. i'd be a lot more willing to design for aol if they'd just gimme the damn executable like netscape does...
w3c html validation service
- online html checker. checks according to strict spec, which isn't always what the real world demands, but useful for idealists, or if you're hunting for a missing bracket. most good html editing software does a decent job of this too...
colormix
- make a new websafe colour online by dithering the 216 palette. the tool produces a .gif for you to download as a bgcolor. does the same thing as ditherbox (www.ditherbox.com).
cognitronix
- detects and lists all activex controls on your system. ie only.
rex swain's http viewer
- type in the address of the website, and this
page will display the raw http header and contents the browser would usually get from the server.
smartftp
- my 8 year search for a satisfactory ftp client is finally over. i have probably logged somewhere in the region of 10000-100000 ftp transfers over the years. before i found smartftp, the internet's biggest mystery to me was the lack of a proper ftp client. ws_ftp is clunky at best, and cuteftp, while decent, started randomly hiding files on me one day (it also comes laden with advertising). nothing seemed like a professional tool.
*finally*, i found smartftp. what can i say...it's everything i ever dreamed of in an ftp client. hats off! and it's free...
writeme
- need a readme.txt or a licence agreement and don't want to pay a lawyer? download writeme...
